The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed Monday that it will intervene in a lawsuit that challenges a Georgia state deadline for absentee ballot applications and whether it is illegal under the Voting Rights Act.
In 2023, a group of theater workers challenged a provision of Georgia state law SB 202, which was passed in 2021 and requires a voter to apply for an absentee ballot 11 days before a presidential election.
